Michelle from Deloitte NZ
Cameras, buckets, action

So life in the real world has begun and honestly, it’s not anywhere near as daunting as I thought it was going to be. Five weeks ago, almost 90 grads arrived in their various offices, ready and eager. Our first two days consisted of going through the usual admin procedures and getting set up with our laptops/swipe cards and the like. On Wednesday, all the grads nationwide converged in Takapuna, Auckland for our 3 day firmwide induction. Here’s where the fun starts…

We were split into groups with our first group activity being filming a short advertisement. We were fortunate enough to be able to use pro filming and sound equipment!

We were fed with more meat than we could ever eat that night, with Deloitte treating the grads to a scrumptious meal at Wildfire. Naturally, it was quite a shock for some – going from a poor hungry student to being fed as much meat as you could fit in!

The next day, we were split into different groups for an afternoon of sports. Let’s just say that we all quickly realised that accountants/consultants and tax consultants aren’t particularly great at pouring water from one bucket into another – with many of us ending up drenched by the end of the day.

The short films were then shown at our Oscars night. Check out the Auckland grads!

A couple of inspirational speakers were thrown into the mix as well, which kept us on the edge of our seats. Of course I didn’t go into much detail about the large bar tabs and late nights… but that’s for you to find out from us when you join us next year!

Anyway, all too soon it was time for us to go our separate ways, arriving at our respective offices the next Monday morning well rested and ready to take on our roles.

Not for long though, as the audit grads met up in Auckland again last week for our first National Seminar – a week of intense audit training. More about that in my next post!

Uni students, you don’t want to miss out on all the fun so get your applications in ASAP! Interviews have commenced and offers are being made…  I might be the one taking you on an office tour too! :)

Cheers, Michelle
